June Green Day Report
Welcome to another exciting episode of Green Day Nation.
It's July now, beautiful, wonderful, partyful July, and Green Day's never-ending quest for world domination is progressing slowly but surely. Unfortunately, that quest does not involve playing any of the awesome festivals going on this summer, but that's probably for the best.
If you give the people what they want, they will hate you.
In bad concert news, everyone out there in the old world who was disappointed when Green Day cancelled their Paris show last November can go ahead and get a lot more disappointed.
Green Day have officially announced that there will be no make-up show, not in Paris, not at Slane Castle, not nowhere. Apparently, you can return to the vendors where you bought your tickets and get a refund now. The dream is over.
However, try not to be too hard on the guys. Word has it that they never even knew about the show, and the scheduled date was a mistake on the part of promoters who confirmed the show prematurely, without getting the OK from the GD band wagon. Tsk, tsk, why is it that things that can be defined as having been "premature" always suck so badly?
If you don't give the people what they want, they will hate you.
The guys won best international group at the Much Music Video Awards this month for "Wake Me Up When September Ends." Although Much Music is Canada's MTV, and is watched daily by literally HUNDREDS of people, the guys didn't show up to accept the award.
With this latest snub coming on the coattails of the official cancellation of the Paris show, industry experts are coming to one clear conclusion: Green Day hate the French. Ils détestent les Français, mais c'est égale, parce que les Français, eux déstestent les Idiots Americains. Maintenant, à la guerre!
In other International News…
Green Day saved the world from certain destruction on June 15th, when a 12-year old girl named Ruby Wilson found a grenade in her backyard in Halifax, England. Apparently, Ruby was doing a little casual gardening when she unearthed the LIVE WWII era grenade.
Luckily, Ruby is a huge Green Day fan and hence the owner of various Green Day memorabilia, including an American Idiot T-shirt emblazoned with the Heart like a Hand Grenade logo. So she recognized the grenade right away, and brought it to her dad.
Her dad told her to put it down VERY slowly, and then he called the bomb squad, which came and evacuated most of Ruby's block. They didn't expect the grenade to actually be live, but it was. The bomb squad detonated the device in a nearby playground.
Now, some correspondents CLAIM that Green Day saved Ruby's life. Others, with greater range of vision, believe that Green Day may have save the world. One little bomb going off can start a chain of mayhem and destruction that knows no boundaries.
Green Day understands how important the little things like this are when it comes to the future of the planet earth. That's why, when the guys aren't fighting the gremlins of international espionage, they are waging peaceful, grassroots battle against the hideous specter environmental Armageddon.
According to the official GD website, one of the band's current secret project
Involves working with the NRDC. The Natural Resources Defence Council is apparently pairing up with Green Day on a new site (Save the Salmon from the Bears / Save the Bears from the Whales). The project will focus on educating wildlife on the importance of eco-sustainability.
With pages like "Building Green" and "The Green Life" already under their belts, it's no surprise that the NRDC sees the benefits of joining forces with a politically powerful band like Green Day.
This could be a great way to get a huge demographic of people involved in the fight to stave off the coming environmental apocalypse. The collaboration may give the term "Green Day" a whole new meaning (although, of course, smoking the green and going green have always been closely related). There's a fine, fine line between being a punk and being a hippie, after all.
Early this month, Billie Joe opened up to MTV about the band's other mysterious "cool new projects." He said that they're still messing around with a bunch of ideas, but that whatever they put out isn't going to be your typical 12-song record, but an actually event.
Hmm, an event, you say? What could that involve?
- Perhaps lots of multimedia? Songs, videos, public art, interactive online shit? and a coherent concept similar to that of American Idiot (ie - Fuck the System).
- Or maybe Green Day is planning on running for the Presidency. Can't you picture it? Mike Dirnt for President: The Dogs are HERE! U.S. Secretary of Defense: Tre Cool. Peace in the Middle East, bitches!
- Or maybe (read: definitely) the new album will dominate through fashion. People went crazy for Green Day's AI styles, and now that he's done with American Idiot, Billie Joe is working his ass off on his other passion: his and Adrienne's Adeline Street Gear.
Billie Joe and Adrienne were recently interviewed together in the Alternative Press, and both made a big point of how important it is to be able to wear clothes that reflect your personal style and interests. In a fashion industry that offers people a wide range of styles from slutty bar star to conservative bar star, the offbeat punk classics and new school forays of Adeline Street are providing breathing room from all those who don't want to look like they just stepped out of the Lindsey Lohan - 50 Cent wedding.
Actually factually, Adeline Records and Adeline Street are the places to stay up to date on the life and times of at least one Green Day member. Billie Joe is in the press these days for happenings around Adeline rather than thanks to Green Day. Adrienne's probably pretty happy to have her projects getting all of Billie's attention after then insanity of Idiot.
In fact, a clue to Green Day's future collaboration with the NRDC may be found on the Adeline Street website asks visitors to TAKE ACTION, much in the same way as does the NRDC homepage. Go Green in every possible way…
Don't Forget to Turn ON Your TiVo
VH1 Classic has set a July 21st premiere date for the fourth installment of Decades Rock Live, featuring Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and Death Cab For Cutie.
